
About ASDB
Our Mission and Values
Alberta Society of the DeafBlind (ASDB) is a consumer-led social and advocacy organization dedicated to promoting social inclusion and empowered independent living for Deaf-Blind and hard-of-hearing-blind individuals. We provide support service providers (SSP), communication facilitators (CF), and interpreters to ensure accessibility and enhanced quality of life. Our organization aims to raise awareness of the DeafBlind community & culture, and to raise funds for much-needed services for our members.
Membership and Affiliation
Membership at ASDB is open to everyone and includes DeafBlind, Hard-of-Hearing-Blind, Low-Vision-Deaf, Low-Vision-Hard-of-Hearing, and DeafBlind-Plus other disabilities such as cognitive delays, mobility differences, or medical conditions. We also welcome allies who are Deaf, sighted, and hearing. ASDB is affiliated with the Canadian National Society of the DeafBlind, the only consumer-led organization for DeafBlind Canadians.
ASDB Objectives
ASDB is committed to advocating for enhanced services for DeafBlind and hard-of-hearing-blind individuals. Our objectives include providing specialized professional development for interpreters, SSPs, and CFs, lobbying for improved services, and educating the public about DeafBlind / hard-of-hearing-blind culture and community norms through courses, seminars, workshops, and awareness-building initiatives.
